Lamar Construction Making Its Whey

Lexington, KY (November, 2010) Lamar Construction Company of Hudsonville, Michigan, USA, used their brand new 298 HSL on a whey processing facility in Greeley, Colorado. The 298 will set about 470 precast concrete panels before the 140,000 square-foot facility can produce Mozzarella cheese.

Using the tips of his fingers, Randy Speet, the 298 operator, lifted the panel off the truck, swung it clear and rotated it before placing it in position. The panels weighed 47,000 pounds with rigging and were 33 feet, six inches tall, 10 feet wide, and 14 inches thick. The 298 lifted them to a 74-foot radius with 180 feet of main boom.

"The Link-Belt machine is very comfortable and I'm real happy with it because it is so smooth and quiet," explained Speet. "I can control the panel to give the crew just a little more 'fuzz.' I can't even feel the weight of the load."

Lamar Construction, started back in the 1930's by Peter Lamar, has grown exponentially in steel and precast concrete erection over the past quarter century. As an experienced turnkey contractor, Lamar has become strong in the design and build arrangement while still maintaining facility maintenance services and a variety of general trades.
