Lamar Team Member Rescues Girl from Drowning

PENTWATER, Mich. (WOOD) - A 13-year-old Scottville girl is in critical condition at a hospital after a man rescued her from lake currents that had pulled her underwater Wednesday afternoon.

Pentwater police told 24 Hour News 8 they received a report around 3:25 p.m. of a swimmer in trouble at the Charles Mears State Park beach. The teen was swimming with her family and friends.

The girl got caught by the lake current, which pulled her from the swim area and under the water. Several boaters in the area attempted to assist in the girl's rescue.

Mark Breen, 29, of Newaygo was able to pull the girl from the water near the south pier of the Pentwater Channel. Rescue personnel arrived and began CPR on the unconscious teen.

The victim was taken to Mercy Health Partners in Shelby and later transported by Aero Med to a Spectrum Health. Her name has not been released.
