General Contracting

General Contracting is traditionally associated with a Design/Bid/Build arrangement, a construction delivery method perhaps most familiar to project owners. With this method, the owner hires a design firm to produce complete construction plans and specifications before selecting a general contractor via a competitive bidding process.

This method is best suited for relatively straightforward projects not likely to require midstream design or scope changes. Since construction documents are complete before bidding begins, the owner can be confident that he or she is receiving more or less apples-to-apples pricing from each general contractor.
